520 companies reported activity in 2004 in the Municipality of Radnevo. The total output produced in 2004 is 700.8mn BGN. Total net sales revenue earned in 2004 is 717.19mn BGN, up 15% year-on-year (626.29mn BGN net sales revenues reported in 2004). Coal mining and power production is major local industry. One of the open pits for lignite coal production of Maritsa-East Mining EAD and the company's head office are both situated in the Municipality of Radnevo. The largest thermal power plant, TPP Maritsa-East 2, with power output capacity of 1,450 MW, is also situated in the Municipality of Radnevo.
As of early 2005, employed labour in the municipality totalled 14,610 people (14% of the regional total). Average public-sector annual salary in 2004 was 7,445 BGN, the highest average annual pay in the region of Stara Zagora. At the same time 4,553 people were employed in private sector in 2004 (31.2% of total employed), with private-sector average annual salary estimated at 3,526 BGN.
Municipal Development Plan 2007-2013 envisages the following development priorities:
· Further development of coal-mining and power production industry through support for the old and new production facilities
· Keeping environment clean
· Developing modern and sustainable agriculture sector
· Delivering quality public services, complying with EU standards
· Creating unique cultural identity of the municipality
· Developing social and technical infrastructure
The following environmental projects were implemented in 2005:
· A project for a risk-free storage of out-of-date pesticides, worth 120,000 BGN, funded by the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Waters
· A project for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and minimization of level of dangerous waste in the Municipality of Radnevo by means of replacing old street light bulbs with energy-saving bulbs. Project cost estimated at 459,202 BGN, to be funded by EPAME
· A forestation project in areas most affected by industrial activity, near Ovacharitsa Dam and the village of Troyanovo, total project cost estimated at 161,000 BGN. The program will be effective over the next three years and will receive financing from EPAME
New asphalt cover has been laid on some town streets in Radnevo, in the village of Znamenosets as well as on some municipal roads, for the purpose of improving existing technical infrastructure. The project, estimated at some 300,000 BGN, will be funded jointly by the Municipality of Radnevo and Public Investment Projects EAD. Under Twinning Program between Bulgarian and US municipalities, the Municipality of Radnevo will start implementing a project for introducing a compost processing program.
With the highest net sales revenue earned among companies in the municipality that reported activity in 2004 are TPP Maritsa-East 2 EAD, Maritsa-East Mining EAD, Remotex - Radnevo EAD, Peshtostroy EOOD, and Kremak EOOD. With the highest profit earned in 2004 are TPP Maritsa-East 2 EAD, Maritsa-East Mining EAD, Remotex - Radnevo EAD, Peshtostroy EOOD, Vesna - Encho Karavelov ET, Yavor Commerce EOOD, and Kremak EOOD.
