2,557 companies reported activity in 2004 (nearly 22.4% of total number of companies in the region) in the Municipality of Kazanlak. The total output produced in 2004 is 367.12mn BGN Total net sales revenue earned in 2004 is 546.7mn BGN, up 15% year-on-year (456.54mn BGN net sales revenues reported in 2004). Machine building sector was most rapidly growing in 2004, with the municipality concentrating roughly 90% of annual output volumes of hydraulic and pneumatic production in the region. Textile industry, agriculture, sales and services sectors follow machine building on the list.
As of early 2005, employed labour in the municipality totalled 23,745 people (22% of the regional total). Average public-sector annual salary in 2004 was 3,688 BGN, while private-sector average annual salary estimated at 2,912 BGN (32,702 employed in the sector, 81.1% of the total employed).
Strategic goals envisaged in Municipal Development Plan 2007-2013 are as follows:
· Supporting pro-active business through the creation of conditions favourable for balanced economic growth using local resource potential. Cultural tourism promotion and support for tourism's infrastructure and resources are also envisaged as a priority
· Creating an effective and competitive agricultural sector, having potential to become profit earning (especially essential oil cropping). Expectations based upon the strategic vision for future agriculture development, being complimentary to industrial development, however still a top priority sector in local economy
· Improving quality of living conditions through favourable social and technical infrastructure meeting local demands
Priorities that suffice to the first strategic goals are as follows:
· Research and development of high-technology industries. Creation of new business incubator, business centers, technological parks, etc.
· Ongoing process of local economic restructuring and preservation of important traditional sectors of local economy as well as development of alternative ones with significant growth potential
· Encouraging private business growth focusing on competitive and market adaptive small and medium production-oriented enterprises
· Development of alternative tourisms: game shooting, fishing, rural, etc.
Priorities that suffice to the second strategic goals are as follows:
· Priority for fruit and rose growing by planting large fields of rose (a total of 5,000 dca) and creating new fruit gardens (a total of 5,000 dca)
· Rehabilitation of irrigation systems
· Developing environmental friendly livestock breeding
Priorities envisaged in the third strategic goal will have an immediate impact on the municipal policies for improving living conditions. These are as follows:
· Restructuring of health infrastructure
· Restructuring of general education infrastructure
· Improving fourth-class roads to make easier transport connections between different residential areas in municipality
· Improving public outlook of local residential areas
· Implementing various environmental projects and programs
In 2005, foundation Local Government Reform awarded the Municipality of Kazanlak Municipality Ready for Business certificate.
Major projects in 2005:
Reconstruction of Sevtopolis town square, worth 300,000 BGN, under Beautiful Bulgaria Program took place in 2005. A project for restoration of church St Ilia the Prophet in Kazanlak under Beautiful Bulgaria Program was launched in June 2005 as well. Total project cost is estimated at 176,400 BGN, while the project is ongoing in 2006.
There were three other projects under Beautiful Bulgaria Program 2005: Construction of Social Center for Disabled People (cost estimated at 77,600 BGN), construction of pass-way towards a Thracian tomb (78,802 BGN), and restoration of Aliol`s house (65,742 BGN). The municipal administration is focusing its efforts on turning Kazanlak into a town with a modern European outlook and attracting locus for tourists. Modern infrastructure, good communication and public urban building take therefore the priority of action in the municipality.
A project for reconstruction of A care house for elderly people No 1 in Kazanlak, worth 388,300 BGN, was implemented in 2005 under the Social Investment Fund. In addition, a project for reconstruction of Exarch Antim I high school, worth 380,000 BGN, was launched under the Energy Efficiency Fund in 2005. In addition, Hope Foundation in 2005 started to implement a project for improving social and ethnic integration, funded by the UNDP. The project is ongoing in 2006, with its total cost estimated at 121,000 BGN.
With the highest net sales revenue earned among companies in the municipality that reported activity in 2004 are Arsenal AD, M+C Hydraulics AD, Katex AD, Kaproni AD, Bulgaria - K AD, Vest EOOD, and Runo - Kazanlak AD. With the highest profit earned in 2004 are M+S Hydraulics AD, Arsenal AD, Bed-spring Producer Plant AD, Bulgarian Rose - Sevtopolis AD, Mihailov - Dechko Raykov ET, Katex AD, and Kaproni AD.
