475 companies reported activity in the municipality of Chirpan in 2004 (4.2% of the regional total). Total output produced was worth 40.06mn BGN. Total net sales revenue earned in 2004 was in the amount of 56.42mn BGN, up 22% year-on-year (46.33mn BGN net sales revenue reported in 2004).
Agricultural sector was most rapidly growing in 2004, with focus put on environmentally clean fruit and vegetables growing; followed on the list by fruit and vegetable processing and the sewing industry.
As of early 2005, employed labour in the municipality totalled 4,551 people (4.2% of the regional total). Average public-sector annual salary in 2004 was 3,609 BGN, while private-sector average annual salary estimated at 2,013 BGN (2,810 employed in the sector, 61.7% of the total employed).
Municipal Development Plan 2007-2013 envisages three strategic goals:
· Accelerated, balanced and sustainable local economic growth
· Improved quality of public services and living conditions
· Increased municipal capacity for better coordinating project and program implementation between various institutions
Some major municipal projects in 2006:
· A project for construction of a new sewage and waste water treatment system in Chirpan. Estimated project cost - 2,663,150 BGN. Project pending approval by Environment Protection Action Management Enterprise (EPAME)
· A project for reconstruction of the Municipal hospital building in Chirpan and purchase of the necessary equipment. Estimated project cost - 179,535 BGN. Project pending approval by Japanese embassy
· A project for reconstruction and rehabilitation of Social Care Center in Chirpan, worth 200,000 BGN, funded by United Netherlands Foundations
The Municipality of Chirpan managed to attract investment from Greece in total of 11mn BGN in 2005. A plant processing frozen fruit and vegetable was built up as well, while this investment additionally stimulated the planting of 20,000 dca area with gumbo, peas, and sweet maize. Investment from Italy for setting up facilities for tube furniture production was also made in 2005. Construction of a new waste water treatment plant will be launched in 2006. In addition, the construction of a new shopping center on a 40 dca area will start in 2006.
All unregulated waste disposal places will be closed in 2006, according to municipal administration`s plans. Project development for the construction of a gas distribution network in Chirpan will be completed in 2006, while CityGas Bulgaria AD has announced plans to start construction works in 2007. Reconstruction of some buildings in the town center, bearing architectural and historical importance, is also to be launched in 2006 under Beautiful Bulgaria Program.
With the highest net sales revenue earned among companies in the municipality that reported activity in 2004 are Badeshtnost AD, Stefan Tonev ET, IP - Ivan Popov, Municipal Hospital in Chirpan, and Chirita - 96. With the highest profit earned in 2004 are Koreli - T - Petar Trendafilov ET, Zlatex - Netso Zlatanov, Ani - Max - Marcho Sarafov ET, Todor Peltekov ET, New life Agriculture Cooperative, and Evterpa Trade EOOD.
