There are 11,399 companies in District of Stara Zagora, which reported activity in 2004.* Compared with 2003, their number increased by 576. The latter is due to the growing number of newly-registered (micro) firms (up to 10 employees), with their number rising up to 10,368 in 2004 (9,845 in 2003). Total output in 2004 in District of Stara Zagora is 2.89bn BGN, which is 600mn BGN more than the output reported previous year (2.29bn BGN) and up 26% year-on-year. Net sales revenues (NSR) in 2004 on district level are in the amount of 4.32bn, up 23% year-on-year. Total profit in turn amounts to 165mn BGN.
The number of companies with number of employees between 11 and 50 is 829, while of those with number of employees between 51 and 100 being an estimated 103. There are 99 companies with number of employees over 100, of these 36 (4 less than in 2003) have their staff exceeding 250 people. The number of retail trade companies is the largest in the total (3,978).
Top 100 companies, ranked by the highest net sales revenues in 2004 (see table on page 31) in District of Stara Zagora, have total net sales revenues (NSR) of 2.72bn BGN, which accounts for 63% of NSR on district level in 2004 (4.32bn BGN). The share of Top 100 companies in terms of gross production in 2004 on district level is 74.4% (2.15bn BGN), with total gross production reported in 2004 estimated at 2.89bn BGN
Total profit earned by Top 100 companies in 2004 is 107.27mn BGN, which accounts for 65% of total profit on district level, also up 12.3mn BGN from total profit of Top 100 in 2003.
The Top 5 places on the NSR and gross production rankings are taken by companies in coal mining and energy production and distribution industry. Zagorka AD brewery ranks 6th in either of the two, however the company ranks 3rd in term of earned profit in 2004.
